ChatGPT Ads Adds Automated Bidding as Part of a Bigger Platform Update

ChatGPT Ads adds automated bidding this week as part of a broader update that gives advertisers new ways to control where their campaigns run and how their results get measured. The changes arrive alongside the platform’s expansion into Brazil and Mexico, marking its first real push into Latin America.

The Bidding Change Advertisers Will Notice First

The headline feature is a new bid strategy called Maximize results. Instead of setting and adjusting bids manually, advertisers set a campaign goal and let ChatGPT Ads handle the rest. The system automatically sets and updates bids to pull as many results as it can from the available budget.

This shifts a decision that used to sit with the advertiser over to ChatGPT Ads own bidding system. It’s a familiar move if you’ve used automated bidding on any other ad platform, and it will likely appeal to advertisers who’d rather manage campaign goals than fine-tune bids on a daily basis.

Whether it actually performs better than manual, more controlled bidding is still an open question, and it’s one worth testing rather than assuming.

More Control Over Where Ads Actually Show Up

Alongside the bidding change, advertisers now get more say in where campaigns appear. A new eligible platforms setting lets you choose which surfaces a campaign can run on: the iOS app, the Android app, the web version, or some combination of the three.

This matters for any advertiser who’s noticed real differences in conversion rates or customer value between mobile and web traffic. Up to now, that kind of split wasn’t something you could control directly inside a campaign.

Tracking Conversions That Do Not Come From Only a Click

ChatGPT Ads Manager is also rolling out one-day view-through conversion reporting, available at the campaign, ad group, and individual ad level. A view-through conversion counts when someone converts within a day of seeing an ad, even if they never clicked it.

This is worth paying close attention to. It means some campaigns may start showing more total conversions than before, not because performance actually improved, but because a type of conversion that used to go unmeasured is now visible.

Advertisers should keep click-through and view-through numbers separate when judging how a campaign is really doing, rather than letting the two blend into one overall total.

An Option To View-Through Conversions

According to the new update, one-day view-through conversions are now reported by ChatGPT Ads Manager at the campaign, ad group, and individual ad levels.

When a view-through conversion is when an ad is able to convert someone within a day of viewing an eligible advertisement. But, without clicking it.

The update suggests that marketers might notice more conversions tied to ChatGPT Ads than those earned directly from clicks, making it necessary to differentiate between click-through and view-through success when analysing campaigns.

WorkMagic Integration Made Its Way Through As Well

Advertisers can now integrate ChatGPT Ads with WorkMagic to track the success of campaigns across multiple platforms.

The connection could also send conversion signals back to OpenAI via the Conversions API, giving marketers another option for putting result data into the platform.

Connecting ChatGPT Ads to the Rest of Your Stack

The update also brings a new integration with WorkMagic, letting advertisers view ChatGPT Ads performance next to their other advertising channels in one place. The integration works both ways.

It can also send conversion data back to OpenAI through the Conversions API, giving advertisers another route to feed outcome data into the platform and, in theory, improve how campaigns get optimized over time.

What ChatGPT Ads Adds Automated Bidding Means for Advertisers Right Now

Put side by side, these four changes push ChatGPT Ads a lot closer to what advertisers already know from Google and Meta: automated bidding, detailed placement controls, and fuller conversion tracking, all under one roof. That’s a real jump in what the platform can do, but it raises the same two questions any automated system does.

Does Maximize results actually beat a more hands-on bidding approach? And how much of any reported lift is really just conversions that were happening all along, just invisible until now?

The Takeaway From This!

If you’re already running campaigns on ChatGPT Ads, don’t flip Maximize results on for everything right away. Run it against your current bidding setup first, and keep an eye on view-through numbers on their own for a few weeks before you factor them into how you judge a campaign.

Also, if you sell into Brazil or Mexico, this is a good moment to get in early; the ad space there hasn’t gotten crowded yet.
